Piano & Composition Lessons
Jesénia began studying classical piano at the age of nine years old. Through her studies, she competed in national and local piano competitions, recitals, and theory and musicianship exams. At Spelman College she majored in music studying Piano and Music composition and continued her studies at New York university majoring in Screen Scoring. As a composer and orchestrator, her works have entered international film festivals and been performed by national and international ensembles. She has most recently served as the Resident Music Director for Barrington Stage Company and orchestrator for new musicals.
Jesénia has been teaching private piano, theory, and vocal lessons for all ages for 10 years. Previously teaching at The International School of Music, she entered education three years ago serving as the Music Teacher at Convent of Sacred Heart in New York City.
Jesénia's private studio consists of three lesson based tracks (LBT) to select from. Goals, skills, and criteria will be decided upon during your consultation to determine which track fits your needs. Those interested in composition can expect 1 hour lessons; 30 minutes of piano & theory study and 30 minutes of composition study. For those interested in voice lessons, please select the consultation option, list your music background, prior length of study , and repertoire on the booking form.

Students will begin their music journey with one introductory lesson and one theory placement exam. The first two lessons will help gauge the students' proficiency level in both piano playing and music theory understanding.
Each lesson combines advanced piano skill and technique, music theory instruction, and improvisational skills. Students can expect to participate in statewide theory exams, studio recitals, and gain ensemble experience.
On this track, you can expect to build expert level piano skills and learn advanced music theory.

Students will begin their music journey with one introductory lesson and one theory placement exam. The first two meetings will help gauge the students' proficiency level in both piano playing and music theory understanding.
Each lesson will combine piano proficiency, music theory instruction, and improvisational skills. This track is designed to be less rigorous that the professional piano track. Students will have the option to participate in practice theory exams, studio recitals, and gain ensemble experience.
On this track, you can expect to build proficient piano skills and a robust knowledge of music theory.

Students will begin their music journey with one introductory lesson that gauges proficiency piano, composition, and instrumental knowledge.
This lesson will be broken into two parts: 30 minutes of piano technique & theory, and 30 minutes of composition study. Students will be able to use DAWs such as Sibelius and Logic ProX to compose. Score study and theory will be a major component of lessons.
Students can expect to gain advanced music theory knowledge and learn how to score for ensembles using orchestral instruments and music libraries.
